Back-to-back earthquakes jolt Leh-Ladakh thrice in 2 hours

A series of three earthquakes struck Leh and Ladakh within a span of two hours on Friday morning, raising concerns but causing no reported damage or injuries. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the tremors were recorded at varying depths, all within the shallow range.

The first earthquake occurred at 08:31 am IST with a magnitude of 3.9 at a depth of 10 kilometres. This was followed by a second tremor at around 10:10 am, recorded at a depth of 28 kilometres. The third and strongest quake struck at 10:23 am IST, measuring 4.8 in magnitude at a depth of 44 kilometres.

Officials noted that earthquakes occurring at depths between 0 and 70 kilometres are classified as shallow and are typically felt locally. Despite the back-to-back tremors, there have been no immediate reports of structural damage or casualties from the region.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, while residents experienced mild shaking during the sequence of tremors across parts of the region.
